Superset your workout! Maximize your workout time!
I, and those of you who I have trained know this very well, love to do superset workouts. When training a client who has 45 min to 60 min to workout I believe the main goal is to be efficient while using proper technique and administering the proper amount of weight. This is where your trainer shows their value to you by constructing a program that covers all of these factors while making the most of your valuable time. The time, which is often at a premium, that you have devoted to your health and fitness.
First, let's talk about what are supersets?
A superset is when you perform two exercises back to back with little or no rest in between.
What do we get out of super setting?
In our workouts at Fit.Mo.U I like to separate muscle groups into supersets so we can be efficient with time, but also to maximize sets to their fullest potential. The superset programming we use at Fit.Mo.U is what many may call an “unrelated” style. An example would be starting with straight bar bicep curls, then to upper trap shrugs, and finally reverse grip cable pulldowns. Yes, doing this style of lifting may cause you to have to reduce the weight, and I know we use increasing weight as a barometer of progress, but the weight reduction is countered by using a longer tempo to create more “time over tension." Clients like when we focus on the tempo (4-1) and preactivation of the muscle we exercise to allow for a “Greater Set!” Do supersets allow you to complement other methods of exercises?
Because we want to be efficient in our workout I like to add a cardio component or functional core exercise to the round. This method gives my clients a more well-rounded workout for the session. When combining all three in a workout you become a “ stronger toned mover." The end result is that you are able to tackle any activity or achieve any workout goal!
